Why only 3-Stars? Value. Lack of ... Breakfast for two was $40, including a 15% tip. I am unaccustomed to spending $40 for our Sunday breakfast and NYT ritual. Yelp says that 3-stars is "A-OK." Our breakfast and service was simply A-OK. Nothing special. That same $40 would buy BIG flavors and artisanal touches at Frittata (Clawson). But that's a "let's splurge" breakfast event ... We ordered the 9 Mile Omelette (corned beef & swiss) and bagel & (smoked) lox. Our beverages were fresh OJ and decaf. The lox lacked flavor and had no hint of being smoked. I'm pretty certain the menu mentioned "smoked." The bagel and rye toast were terrific. The cream cheese was room temp (good) and easily spread, not a cold-frozen blob. We arrived ~9:20AM and were only the 4th table. By 10AM, business began increasing. We were promptly and pleasantly welcomed and seated in a comfortable booth by the windows. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable and reasonably attentive. The kitchen got our food out quickly. Hot food, hot. Cold food, cold. I asked for milk for my decaf ... no milk available. Huh? Breakfast? No milk? Also, no WiFi. On my Sept 2014 visit, I would have sworn that I was told WiFi was "Coming Soon." No ritual reading of my Sunday NYT. Grrr. Nor was there WiFi close enough to leech off of. I love the space and contemporary fit-out. Plenty of room between tables for customers and staff to circulate without unnecessary bump & grind. CCW friendly.

When you walk in, you notice that this is a classy joint - though the patrons are not dressed up. The decor here is pretty neat with several celebrity prints on the walls. The chairs here were very comfy... soooo comfy! The food was okay, a little over priced for the portion size - but you are paying for quality, not quantity. My wife and I both enjoyed omelets that were cooked perfectly. The coffee here was really good and our waitress was very attentive to our table. We only stopped here because we were getting some auto work done just down the road. Now we know about this place, we might make a special trip just to go here.

Really?!?!? $16 for a plain corned beef sandwich. I don't mind paying for good food. I absolutely love fine dining. But for the last few days I've been craving a corned beef sandwich. I wouldn't minded the price, BUT the sandwich was soooooo small AND full of fat. I had to literally pick through the meat and remove the excess fat. Needless to say I won't want another corned beef sandwich from this deli anytime soon.

This place has a huge menu. Had a delicious hot meatloaf sandwich (Adam Sandler, where are you) served open-faced on white bread (your choice of bread which included rye, challah, wheat, etc.) with mashed potatoes and gravy over everything. Meatloaf was moist, fork-tender, and well-seasoned. Mashed potatoes were fresh, as in they weren't whipped to death, but required some gentle mashing which I appreciated. Service was great. Bread basket had this delicious poppy-seed onion bread. Overall, it's a great place that I will visit again to try something on their huge menu.

The food was a strong three stars, but the service added another star! The menu is really cool. Sandwiches, salads, fish, bagels, breakast, coffee drinks, etc. They have something from breakfast to dessert! I ended up having a breakfast sandwich with a fried pickle! The sandwich was good. It was served on hearty brioche bread with cheese, eggs (I had my over medium), and bacon. The sandwich came with a spicy mayo, which was good, but if I ordered it again, I would get it without the mayo. There was way too much. In addition, I would eat it open faced. It was really messy! The fried pickle was ok. There wasn't any seasoning (or very little) in the breading and it was more like a cucumber spear than anything. If you were expecting something like pickle chips, think again. I had a cappuccino to drink and it was delicious! I would have to say the customer service was really what made the meal wonderful. Calvin, the waiter was so kind, and friendly. I have to give big props to someone who kept calling me "my lady". Like I said, the menu is extensive, and there is no doubt you could easily find something for any type of meal or taste! Great location!

While visiting a friend on my trip to Michigan she recommended we eat at the Stage Deli. It kind of reminded me of a deli in Atlantic City where they have pictures of Hollywood movie stars all over the place. Since moving to New Mexico three years ago I don't eat much deli food. And why would I when New Mexican food is so much better. Even though the restaurant was packed, which is always a good sign, the wait to be seated wasn't long. The menu was very extensive. Deli sandwiches, burgers, salad, and a variety of Jewish favorites. I had an enormous pastrami and corned beef sandwich with melted Swiss cheese and coleslaw. Included was an order of coleslaw and steak fries and real ice tea. My friend had an enormous double cheeseburger with coleslaw and steak fries. To say my sandwich was good would be an understatement. It was DELICIOUS!!! I had to take half back to my friends house because I was stuffed. The sandwiches were rather expensive. Most cost between $12-$15 dollars. But I guess that's not too bad when you can get two meals from one Now the bad news. About two hours after I got back to my friends house my stomach started to gurgle and rumble. Shortly after that I spent the rest of the night depositing my food. I think my stomach was trying to tell me to get back to New Mexico for some real food!!!

Holy cow! Great corned beef sandwich but $16?!?!?! That's for just ONE sandwich. I only stop in when I'm on this side of town, which isn't often, so I'll need to remember this important detail next time I'm in the area.

Stage Deli gets 5 stars because they are a class act. Service is incredible and food is always fresh. They have all the essentials any Jewish deli would have but all done at a very high level; Reuben sandwiches, pastrami, matzo ball soup and lox just to name a few. It also holds a special place in my heart as the brunch place my mom and I always go to :) But, seriously regardless the time of day you won't be disappointed.

Solid four star. The food was great and the service, they went out of their way. I like the remodel job and just an overall great experience. Eggs, omelette, and bagels are a hit.

First things first, service was great! Food was fast and came out correct. Can't complain about the price, didn't pay, bonus! Had the Reuben it was great perfectly toasted rye bread with melted cheese and piled high with corned beef and kraut! The mushroom barley soup was good, needed a touch salt and pepper, but good. I have to say the odd management team was aggressive and controlling with the staff? Not a good thing for the guest to pick up on. First visit and well worth the wait. I will be back again and again.

One of the best places in the area to get good food consistently always good always fresh Only problem wait time And a bit expensive still 5 stars

Food was excellent and the service was impeccable . The ambiance was quite delightful. The menu was quite large and the server was extremely knowledgeable and made recommendations which we followed. The only negative was that the menu was essentially a la carte. Two lunches with tip was almost forty dollars. Apparently this did not discourage the clientele. A good meal with NYC prices.

omg and wow i dont care what the price is its worth it! Me and my co-workers have all never eaten here so we ordered take out. I got the Reuben with no sauerkrat and the russian dressing. I dont know why anyone would get it without the russian dressing? It was a little pricey, $15 for a sandwich that comes with a tiny side of cole slaw, but the cole slaw was crunchy, fresh, and delicius and I am very picky about my cole slaw. The sandwich was also tasty and fresh. The meat was so tender and juicy. I didnt have breaksfast yet I could still only east half the sandwich. The price is well worth it! My lovely co - worker Nora would llike me to let you know how much she enjoyed her Blackened Chicken sandwich which was $10.50 and comes with steak fries and cole slaw but she is watching her figure so asked to substitute the fries for some steamed broccoli and they accomodated her at no charge. Her sandwich was spicy and amazing and the broccoli was fresh and crunchy not over cooked. We will definitely be re- visiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great spot! Cool decor and a very wide-ranging menu. Our party visited for brunch and all diners were highly pleased with their selections. Adjoining deli is a gem -- amazing offerings in the case including what appeared to be pretty authentic bagels. Service was extremely good - paid good attention to us without hovering. Will definitely return !

I come here often to eat. Pretty good and consistent food. The atmosphere is nice. You can choose indoor or outdoor depending on the season. The place was remodeled not too long ago and was a big change from the old look. Everything tastes fresh. Service can be off at times, very seldom though. That's the one thing I didn't allow me to give 5 stars. Otherwise a definite must try.

Service and food is freaking great!!!! I had the chopped liver w/ pastrami... Omg! The chopped liver was delish!!! In fact next time I'm just getting the chopped liver. The texture and seasonings were on the spot. I had a side of potato salad, which was yummy- tart/sweet small bits of potato. I was only able to eat 1/2. Of the sandwich and a couple bites of potato salad and I was full. My issue $14 for a sandwich. It was big, but not ginormous ...yes quality versus quality. Everything about the sandwich was top quality, so I guess you're paying for that. I have a love/ hate thing with the cost. Probably good that it's so pricey, or I would eat there every day. Lol Hubs loves the matzo soup and a plate of chopped hot pastrami. Lean so lean and full of flavor!

Terrible service, all food was wrong, pd for extras on sandwich that we didn't get and fries were cold. Our servier has an attitude problem and the customer is always wrong. Oh and did I mention the food is WAY over priced unless you are a rich old person. Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed and will never be back.

I can't believe I have never been to the Stage Deli. It's not like I'm never in the area. It's not like I didn't know it was there. Hello, I am a fan of sandwiches in general and delis in particular. I can't explain it. When I spied Tara L.'s review I knew I had to try it. Today I ventured out to the area to sample. I dragged James with. He is not a huge deli guy but he likes to keep me happy so he told me we were going as soon as I suggested it. Shockingly this is now his fave area deli and he can't wait to return. We started with some devilled eggs. The menu is huge but he was starving, I spotted them and decided to give him a chance to peruse the vast menu yet keep his head from exploding from hunger. Good call. They are so tasty. Not too much sauce, a bit of pickle and a dusting of paprika = granny-made flavor (happy). That, the little bowls of pickles and the handy dandy freebie basket o'rye kept us happy while we weighed choices for the rest of the meal. He ended up with a #53 Guys and Dolls. It's the Stage's version of a monte cristo. Do not let your mind go in a Bennigan's direction, it's nothing like that overbreaded deep fried heart attack. This sammie is light, completely non greasy with flavorful meats, swiss and honey mustard inside. Its served with nice strawberry jam that matched well with the ham. So good. I had a #32 with corned beef, coleslaw and russian on rye. I added swiss because its not the same without to my tastebuds. I did not grill or toast because this rye is damn good rye. Crunchy crust, dense yet soft middle. This is a bread that makes me content all on its own. Grilling a sandwich is almost like a cheat, it can make a merely mediocre sandwich seem so much more than it actually is, Think about a plain cheese sandwich, then think about a grilled cheese- enough said. Having my sandwich as is let me know all these ingredients really are top notch. Top notch corned beef it was! I'm going to say something I thought I'd never say. I think the flavor was better than The Bread Basket. The swiss cheese was solidly better. *Waiting for my gran to roll over in her grave*. I did not get lean, if you ever read my reviews you know I think extra lean is a waste of my damn time. The regular stuff was in no way fatty, the fat had rendered perfectly, imparting that unctuousness into a tender juicy result. I know, the irony of having a come to Jesus moment in a Jewish deli, but there you have it. Yummilicious! You do not need sides with your sandwich, I repeat, just get the sandwich (or split a sammie and get other things). We tried a fry/onion ring combo and I ended up taking nearly my whole sandwich home and two pickles. Our server was doubtful I had even eaten any of it but I did, it was just huge. My husband took half of his for later. We knew they would survive but fried potatoes and onions would not. Atmosphere here is great with comfy seating, rare in a local deli. I'm thrilled to see a place where I don't have to do take out. Prices are fine, not as bad as Zings and hey you are getting waited on and not having to wander and fend for yourself. For a guy like James this is a huge bonus point. For a two meal deal its actually a decent rate. Overall I felt like I got real value for the money as well as really great food. I have to give a special mention to our server Sandy. She is freaking on.the.ball awesome. Best server I have had in forever; friendly, fast, good suggestions, refills before I needed them. I could go on and on. She is a gem. We are already making excuses to come back. I could kiss them for making my husband a deli enthusiast! Small update: The way to go is the triple salad plate here. Egg, chicken and tuna salads with tomatoes and fun. Use the freebie breads to make mini sandwiches. You have tasty free pickles to go with too. No lie, my husband and I eat this as an app and take most of our sammies home. So fat and happy! All three salads are awesome.

Never had a bad meal here! Waitstaff is friendly, great management. Corned beef never disappoints, and neither does the soups. I also like that they have a nice selection of candy for purchase.

I've been here twice and I adore the matzoh ball soup!! The corned beef was a bit fatty, but it was warm and good until I came across the fatty piece. The place is fairly clean and the service is good. I will be back for the soup!!

Enjoyed dinner with my BFF here last night. The staff was awesome as well as our waitress. We arrived 30 minutes before closing and they didn't rush us out of the restaurant nor did their service decline as a result. I ordered the daily special, Tuscan Salmon. OMG!!!! It was the best dish I have tasted in a long time. The salmon had a slight crisp on both sides and served on top of white bean and kale cooked in white wine. It came with a salad and one side. I had the latke, which was also yummy. It was so delicious, a day later I can't stop thinking about it. My BFF had the brisket with mash potatoes, green peas her favorite and it never disappoints. It also came with a soup or salad. She chose of their mushroom barley soup. It looked delicious and she said it was delicious. I have eaten here many times and although the menu is pricey, the servings are big and the food is just delicious, so it's well worth it.

Being in the neighborhood and needing a little carry-out nosh to take when visiting a friend, my wife and I went to the Stage. I had not been there in years and I wasn't a vegetarian back then but I somehow knew that the Stage would have something for me. I was not adventurous enough for the veggie chopped liver (never liked the real thing years ago) but I did try the Pretty Woman sandwich (a Reuben with avocado subbing for the meat). It was not the same as the real deal but not bad. I liked the slaw, too (not too saucy). My wife ordered the real Reuben. She liked that the bread was lightly grilled and not saturated with butter beforehand. I was happy to satisfy my hankering for deli food (which is hard for a vegetarian to get) at the Stage.

I hate this place! The people and wait staff are SO RUDE! Overpriced sandwiches that you can get at your local deli where the people and employees are actually friendly. I don't understand the hype about eating here. I will never go here again. I've been twice and it's always the same.

Been eating here for years. Food is always delicious and staff are wonderful. Like that the menu changes with the times but never changes so much as to diminish the great Jewish deli roots., After 50+ years the tradition is still there.

  • Matt A.

Not sure what all the hype is about this place. Food was good, not great by any means. The prices are completely unrealistic for the quality of food I received. Waitstaff was slow and not interested is giving the level of service I was paying for. This is my second visit now and I either am always going when their having a bad day or this place is not really what I've heard. For the price and quality I've received here their will be no 3rd strike, their out.

I think there's a lot for me to discover here but at first glance I was a little thrown off when I walked in to find the dining room as swanky as it was. Additionally, I was a little floored by the prices but this is West Bloomfield so I should've expected a hefty upcharge. That said, I was expecting an enormous sandwich stacked to the rafters with meat. I ordered the Russian Reuben - pastrami, Swiss, slaw on Pumpernickel. It came with fries which I didn't realize until I got it home. But at $14.50 I needed more to make this a grand deli experience. The bread was toasted really nicely but on the thin side - what can I say I like my carbs. If I wanted to eat healthy I wouldn't have come here. The meat was delicious with a smokey finish - really great stuff but for the price I needed more meat. The fries were steak cut which I'm never a fan of because they're always soggy in the middle while good for dipping in ketchup - these were no different. The slaw was pretty standard but good. I also ordered a latka which was my first and I liked it quite a bit. I gather the only difference between these and potato pancakes is the deep fryer but with some applesauce and sour cream these were outstanding! I've heard a lot of fuss about this place over the years...from it's early beginnings in Oak Park and now Troy's location and here of course. But deli to me anyway, isn't only about quality, which this location has in the bag hands down, it's also about portion size....something this spot was lacking my first trip here. When compared to some other local spots, for the price I get more at those places...AND they come with a pickle. WTF?! No pickle with my sandwich...I have to order them separate because they're so good here? I guess I'll have to remember that for next time...but deli without a pickle is like....well, it's just wrong. The staff was friendly, professional and worked like a well oiled machine passing nosh out to the patrons and I noticed helping several of the ladies carry their purchases out to their cars....I can appreciate such world class service. Not worth me crossing town for but maybe worth a trip to the Troy location to see what that's about.

The food was great. The service was excellent. Fries were a bit cold, I would recommend the corned beef. The "Rachel" wasn't that good.

Good food, HUGE menu, so during your first visit, give yourself PLENTY of time to peruse the menu. We recently brought a friend with us, and he was staring at the menu for a good 15-20 minutes because there were SO many options. Husband and I have been here 3-4 times, and we've tried the Hot Brisket Sandwich, Hot Turkey Sandwich, Classic Reuben, and Russian Reuben. Out of all 4, we think the Russian Reuben is the best one with grilled pumpernickel, corned beef (it actually comes with pastrami, but we always request corned beef), swiss cheese, and cole slaw. We always split one order because the portions are HUGE and then we get the Matzo Ball soup. Sandwiches are generally $10 and up, and the Russian Reuben that we get is $13.95, so about 5 dollars more than what you'd find at their food court stand in the Somerset Collection. The matzo ball soup is about $6, so definitely up there for a bowl of soup, but their matzo ball is one huge ball the size of a softball. Their broth is generally pretty good, but at times, it's been on the saltier side. The last few times that we've gotten it have been just right. One thing that I want to mention is that though the past few times we came here during dinner time, the last time we went with our friend was 330pm. The restaurant wasn't full like at dinner time, and the food was a lot better. When they get busy, their preparation tends to be more sloppy and things tend to get over seasoned. So, if I were you, I'd go for a late lunch or an early dinner. After 5pm, you'll definitely be fighting the crowds. As a lot of people have mentioned, the general crowd is skewed older, but don't let that prevent you from going. The food is well done and service can be a little spotty, but it's not terrible.

So you're getting a little up in the years as a restaurant in West Bloomfield and you don't like the way you look anymore. What to do, what to do? Why, you do what anything that's sagging a little in West Bloomfield does, you get a facelift! But the problem with that strategy is that, despite what you look like on the outside (and their remodeling has them looking very spacious and like a classic New York deli) you can't change what's inside. And their cooking when I visited the last time was no better than in 2008. Just average. If not slightly below. I've tried both breakfast and lunch here in the last few years. Their Matzo Brie (matzah eggs!) were not even up to the low standards set when I make the dish at home. The eggs were cooked to within an inch of their lives to the point where the matzo became crisp again after going through its lovely blended with the eggs phase. And yet somehow there were still undercooked parts where the egg was running. It was a bigger "miracle" than Passover! But without the oil. Which in this case would have been nice. As far as their lunch goes, I went for the egg salad sandwich. The rye bread it was on was great. But (maybe they're just bad with eggs) the sandwich was a gloppy, overmayonaised mess. More egg than salad. If I wanted to eat a hard boiled egg on bread, I would have ordered that. What's sad is that my family has been eating here since they were a rundown little place in Oak Park. Now my parents completely avoid it and I can see why. It's gotten all uppity in its West Bloomfield digs and survives, in my opinion, based on its reputation from its younger days. And, sadly, the prices reflect both the reputation and being classier. $20.00 for some of their deli food? Seriously? I wouldn't pay that in New York City let alone West Bloomfield! But, hey, they have to pay for the plastic (er plaster) surgery to keep themselves looking nice somehow, right?

Boring, overpriced food. There's a Stage Deli in Manhattan; not sure if it's a franchise, or this one is simply modeled after the one in NYC, the menu and interior are virtually same. But the food is different. The one in NYC has wonderful, fresh, tasty sandwiches served on the bread that tastes as if it just left the oven. This one has dry bread devoid of taste, and there's nothing special about the food at all - I was served a mediocre Ruben sandwich that cost twice as much as it should have. I can get a better Reuben at any unpretentious diner in half the time at half the price. The average age of the patrons was way up there, this place obviously has difficulty attracting yonger clientele. The interior is nice but it doesn't make up for the quality of food.

We go here all the time. Normally, we love the food, don't care about the prices and enjoy the experience. But alas, this time it was different. We were three for lunch. I ordered one of their signature sandwiches which is called "Some like it Hot". It was described as hot pastrami with hot peppers and hot melted cheese served with hot mustard and hot horseradish. Well, to state it simply, this sandwich was not so hot. The pastrami, which normally comes out a little greasy, was completely dried out and crumbly. I suspect that this meat was sitting on the steam table too long. And like the old Woody Allen Borscht Belt joke, " the food was not good and the portions were too small." This scant sandwich was sinfully priced at around $ 13 and not worth it. A hamburger was ordered and it was ordered medium rare. The first time it arrived it was beyond well-done and the after sending it back, the next try came out medium well. I think they must have been just having a bad day. Normally we have great experiences here, but today, not.

Found this place by chance two years ago. Been going for lunch occasionally ever since. Huge selection of sandwiches. Ruben is the way to go. Can sit down or take away from the deli counter. Perfect outdoor patio to enjoy lunch on a nice summer day.

I ate there on Saturday and also carried out last night both times were very good. Our waitress on Saturday was very grumpy so we switched to another waiter and he was very polite and got our food right away and our order was perfect. If you are craving a salad go for the Mark Beltar which is one of their house favorites. Every meal comes with a bread basket and pickles, old and new dills. Just writing this review is making me hungry. They have a bar, home made deserts which will knock your socks of soups and sandwiches everything is delicious. The food here is a little pricey but i feel is worth it because ultimately, you get what you pay for.

For the last 3 years I protested myself from this place just because my first time was not the greatest experience. However this last week I've already gone twice :) I have officially become a stage fan. I ordered the Kale Salad with Salmon both times. And it is soo good. Also, the Lemon chicken was fabulous. Service is okay but that won't stop me again from Protesting. Thank you Stage Deli!

We love this place! We started with the sandwiches, Corned Beef with Swiss and Cole Slaw for me (delicious) and the Some Like It Hot (pastrami) for Ken. We've since branched out to other sandwiches - the chopped liver is amazing - Matzo Ball soup (love the presentation). I often get a side of fruit instead of the shoestring fries. Our favorite app is the BBQ Salami, which is hunks of salami (and I mean hunks!) served on a sizzling platter with a side of what I think may be apricot jam. We've had the waiter pour it over so it caramelizes on the plate, and we've dipped semi-blackened chunks in the cup of sauce. Both ways are yummy. Breakfast is delicious too. The Nova Lox are sooo good! I've had them mixed with scrambled eggs and caramelized onions (yum) and with bagel and cream cheese (yum). Their pancakes and waffles are great too. We've not had a bad meal! Fancier interior than any other deli I've been to (including NY). Clean. Great service - our favorite waiter is Calvin. Gets busy on weekends.

Really lack luster food: Our server was way overwhelmed with picky customers who ran her ragged for napkins, water, lemons, ketchup, toothpicks, utensils, bread, butter and pickles (never in the same trip mind you.) She did her best to accommodate us but was constantly interrupted by the two tables of 18 people next to us, so our service suffered. One of the tables had ten adults three small kids and three others in high chairs. The grandpa was snapping his fingers at the server and saying "Miss. *getting louder* Miss. *getting even louder* Miss, I'm speaking to you." and of course she had to excuse herself from the middle of our order to quell this jerk. How obnoxious! A manager should have stepped in to help the young lady, but they didn't. The menu is far too big as this tries to be a copy of the NY deli. The food was decent (sandwiches, as one should expect) but the soup was ice cold. Chicken noodle soup with dayglow-yellow broth, spaghetti noodles, and no chicken or carrots? Your Bubbi would be disappointed. Back to the menu--does a menu also need to have so many items? The prices are higher than most delis too. For your first visit this could really take some time to read your options. The Mexican guys in the deli were particularly nice, seemingly out of place, but friendly. Better food, better service, smaller groups of people, and lower prices are right across the street at Deli Unique.

I came here and ate the Cobb Salad, quite good but lots of eggs. They have a good selection of burgers, salads, soups and sandwiches. I also had the French Onion soup and some bread, the bread and soup was very good. The service overall was slow. When I left, I got a piece of Blueberry Cheesecake to go, which was just ok, nothing special. Prices are a little high. Recommended though to give it a try.

My family's came here for years, and for good reason. The recently renovated place is very attractive and maybe detracts from the powerful simplicity of the fare. Top tier chicken soup. Their Reuben (my calibration sandwich for a New York-style deli) will bring you to your knees. Eat at the Stage Deli!

Yes it is good but the prices have shot up like a skyrocket. Okay, food prices are way up but not this much and there are places just as good for less money. A lot less money. This is a sandwich shop for heavens sake with prices like a linen and crystal Zagat five star. I don't go there anymore.

Not overly impressed, but the food and service are OK. Both my and my wife's dishes were missing component parts of the meals we ordered. The waiter corrected the mistakes, but should never have brought the dishes without being complete.

Every big City with a significant Jewish population has, or used to have, at least one place like the Stage- a big restaurant with a deli counter that served the same kind of food you'd find in a little neighborhood deli on the East side of New York in the 30s, where everyone gathered to eat and meet old friends after services on Saturday. In Detroit, in the 50s and 60s it was Darby's on 7 Mile Road, and the Stage reminds me very much of Darby's- those of you over 50 might remember it as well. The Stage has (of course) great corned beef, pastrami, chicken soup, matzoh balls, knishes and other traditional dishes, but they also have plenty of non-deli dishes, like eggs Benedict, chicken quesadillas and even chicken with waffles. Prices are moderate, the servings are large, and the staff is very friendly. I don't go very often- I can only take so much food this rich!- but when I'm in the mood for deli, the Stage is it.

Oh boy. This place is incredible! It was way more upscale than I was counting on - luckily they were cool with our shorts and tee shirt attire. We were sat immediately and started perusing the menu. I decided to go with matzo ball soup and 1/2 corned beef + swiss on rye. Hubs got the philly cheese steak. When the food came out, I received my 1/2 sandwich and hubs got his cheese steak. I asked where my soup was and the server got this "deer in the headlights" look and said it was coming right up. He clearly forgot it. It would have been nice to have gotten the soup first - I hate switching between the two...but oh well. The matzo ball was HUGE - the size of a canteloupe I would say. The broth was pretty plain. I had to season it with a generous amount of salt and pepper. That was definitely the low point of my meal. However, the corned beef sandwich saved it! I had contemplated ordering it extra lean but decided not to - I can't believe it could be any more lean! It was literally falling apart. The rye was not toasted and I wouldn't have it other way. The inside was soft and fluffy and the crust was chewy and delicious. It was the perfect sandwich. I only wish I had ordered the whole sandwich instead of the soup! Hubby looooved his cheesesteak. The meat was nice and tender and the fries were great. Also, he inhaled the coleslaw and said it was the best he had ever had! Can't wait to go back!

Oy! I was in Jewish heaven! The mish mash was outstanding and the brisket melts in your mouth. You get what you pay for and it's worth it. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I LOVE it. Try this place, you will not be sorry. By the way, there is a bakery next door that has wonderful challah. Give it a try too.

My wife and I have eaten here at least 6 times, and some of those times I had my parents with us. Every meal has been excellent. We especially like the home-made pickles they serve when you sit down (if you ask for more they bring them!). And the breads are good too - I like the onion rolls. The menu is huge - you should be able to find something you like. I think I have ordered something different every time and I've always liked it. We also take our daughter when we go - she was maybe 8 months when we started going and now she is 2. They have paper and crayons for her. Its a good place for families. Some people complain about the price on here - I think the price is very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food.

Being first-time visitors here we were pleasantly surprised by the upscale dining area of the deli -- it's just a pleasant place to spend some quality time over a meal. (The seating is a little close, though.) We also loved the food. First of all -- the matzoh-ball soup is out of this world, in part because the matzoh ball itself is as large as an asteroid! Delicious broth too. I somehow worked my way through this dish to my pastrami sandwich -- great rye bread, piled high with meat. The homemade pickles were outstanding as well -- there were actually two kinds of pickles, one more briny and with more nuanced seasonings than the other, more conventionally sour pickle. We'd love to come back and further mine the depths of the large and intriguing menu, and get some deli items to take back to our Jewish-deli-deprived part of the state.

first-a cup of cappuccino. A lovely foam and a deep cup of expresso merged together. My only complaint is that their were coffee grounds on the bottom of the cup. My daughter had stuffed cabbage with turkey meat and mashed potato. Enough to serve two twice! My husband had pastrami that was so tender and so tasty that it was easy to be satisfied with 1/2 of the sandwich., On our way out we stopped at the deli counter-heaven-nut encrusted halva bars. This is a must go to destination.

Both the preparation and the service are good if not great, but the selection is *far* from the standard set by Jewish delis in the NYC and Chicago (the Skokie - Buffalo Grove corridor), for example. I'm not crazy about the strip-mall locations, either, but that's life in modern suburbia. I've tried the Vineyards in Farmington Hills and Siegel's in Commerce. The Vineyards has better ambience, Siegel's is a bit worse, but the menus are about on par with the Stage. I'm hoping to try the Bread Basket in Oak Park soon, but it's quite a schlep.

omg! The food is wonderful. Every soup that we have tried (of course you must add the avodado, cheese, and sour cream) has been fantastic. The pickles are my favorite, and the breakfast foods are excellent. My fiance loves the sandwiches and fish plates. Can't go wrong, great food!

Had pastrami sandwich. Portion was smaller than 2 years ago. Pastrami was good, but chopped up instead of long slices. Rye bread on which the sandwich came on was good. Price was high at $13.50 a sandwich. Wow... way way way too expensive. Nothing justified such a high price. I give this place 3 stars, because although the food was good, I will not be spending my money there.

I tend to base my opinion of delis on their chicken soup, and the soup here is bad. HOWEVER, everything else is really great. Good double baked rye, huge sandwiches, good salads... The new outdoor seating is amazing too. 20 years of having to sit inside the dark and dreary restaurant got old quick. I would go back time and time again... I just can't quite up my rating due to the disappointing soup.

The Goods: Super clean dining area (didn't check the bathroom), huge menu with plenty of different salads, sandwiches, burgers, and jewish faves, service was good, food arrived in a timely manner, portions were good, food was good ( had the "some like it hot sandwich"- pastrami/mustard/horseradish/hot pepper/pepper swiss) The Bads: Decor is way over the top/contemporary/upscale (white pleather chairs!!!), servers were overdressed and pretentious ( It's like he didn't realize he was serving me a frickin pastrami on rye. Cool it on the swank buddy!), why did they even have servers? This is a deli! prices were outrageous: my sandwhich was $12, fountain coke's were $2.25!, with 3 sandwhiches and 3 non-alcoholic beverages, the bill was over $50 with the tip! The Verdict: When we walked in, we thought we were in the wrong place. What we were looking at just didn't make sense! Black tie waitstaff? Cloth napkins? 12-15 dollar sandwiches!? Trying to make a deli upscale is like wearing a tie with a jean jacket. You just end up looking really stupid, and I feel stupid for eating here.

In my quest for the perfect Reuben, I happened upon the Stage Deli one Sunday morning. At the time when i visited, about 8 months ago, the restaurant had just finished its redesign, which is what i will blame their slow service on (and is the reason why they got 4 stars). That being said, the stage deli put out a strong Reuben with flavorful corned beef and a sharp kraut; the matzah ball soup was comforting and the deli part of the restaurant had a wide array of meats and cheeses. All in all, i would say that the Stage Deli is well worth a stop and that their Reuben is more than solid.

Very good corned beef and crusty rye bread. Reuben comes with Russian dressing on side though, unless you specify. I tend to come here with a vegetarian friend and they are never at a loss for what to order. High quality ingredients, recent remodels added a very nice storefront and outdoor seating. Explore the menu, everything is good. Server are nice but have a tendency to assume regulars know what they want even if their party is still looking at the menu, putting you in the awkward position of either telling them to come back multiple times or ordering before everyone else is ready to.

I am going to add a star. I came back here and had the breakfast which was very good. I ordered the salami omelet with a bagel and hash browns and a fresh squeezed orange juice. Everything I had was very good. Everyone else really enjoyed their breakfast too!!!

My first Hanukkah was spent in very good company at Stage Deli. We were craving latkes. Stage Deli is apparently an Oak Park transplant established in West Bloomfield that I had yet to discover until Saturday. From the immediate entrance, a traditional deli invites you to browse through Jewish cuisine staples, from Lox to Kugel. In the dining area, the décor is stark, full of bright lights and contrasting black and white furnishings, which I very much liked. The menu is overwhelming, and I'm referring to pages and pages of selection; there is great versatility for a cheat day or if you want healthier options. Service is speedy and warm. We were seated and greeted with a basket that held an assortment of freshly baked bread and a plate of juicy crisp pickles. Yummy. I ordered the Garden Chopped with balsamic vinaigrette on the side, which was standard, and my onion breath lingered on into the night. My counterpart, who just happened to be in a binging mood, polished an enormous egg salad sandwich on an onion roll bun and steak fries with stage sauce. Keeping to the holiday tradition, we shared an order of latkes, with sour cream and apple sauce on the side. I am not claiming to be a latke connoisseur, but they were fabulous with a nice crisp on the outside. A stamp of authenticity is when you see a gathering of bubbes and zaydies dining. The tastings seem endless for those in search of delicatessen favourites and also creations with modern flare. Sahtan!

Five stars for deli style food. If you want a serious corned beef or pastrami sandwich come here. My friend was our waitress so we had a biased experience. High quality menu and service. The best deli style sandwiches and pickles I know of in Oakland county... Don't come in trying to eat healthy because you will leave with a serious case of the itis.

I love Stage Deli...a friend introduced me to it and now sometimes I have that craving to go. Everything I have ever had here is GREAT...I am picky about pickles and reuban sandwiches but those are very good here. Everything is always fresh and even the coffee is really good. My fave is the chicken salad...I forget the menu name for it...since everything has little quirky names. The service was lacking, but usually I don't mind because when I visit I'm not usually in a hurry. It gets packed during lunchtime but the service isn't too much slower than usual. The servers have always been very nice though, which is a plus. I love the ambience of the place...more like a gourmet, upscale restaurant than a deli. Soft music and is always very clean... The room is very open with plenty of places to be seated and lots of posters around. It's a great place to visit and recommend it to everyone I know who visits the area.

I am an absolute Deli fanatic. I have eaten at many. And I say: Ignore all the bad reviews! Stage Deli is so good. You pay a bit more because EVERYTHING here is good! Fresh, quality ingredients, plentiful, excellently prepared. What more could you want? Stop complaining, already! I could go on listing all the many excellent dishes. I have a hard time not ordering a pastrami, swiss cheese, with coleslaw and Russian dressing every single time. The crust on their rye bread!!! But I managed to order their broiled Whitefish last time. Two sides!! Perfectly cooked fish. And I learned then that their hash browns are the stuff of dreams--crunchy, but not greasy. Cobb salad also very good. The guys at the take-out counter are efficient and helpful if you decide not to eat in. I can't imagine why anybody wouldn't want to eat here! Go! Enjoy!

As long-time, loyal patrons of The Stage Deli, through scandals and recent renovation, I am horrified by the recent service and treatment that my friend and I received the other day. While the renovation to the interior of the restaurant has taken a significant step forward, their service has taken several steps back. Our waitress, waited far too long to greet us and take a drink order. After another lapse of time, we inquired about our drinks, to be told, "I'm too busy. I'm doing this by myself." Our food order, simple deli fare, took even longer. When the busboy came to clear our table, we had to put our food in the bins ourselves. The manager, who reeked of cigarette smoke, should have shared the responsibility for her staff's shortcomings, as head of house, and instead, only blamed the waitress. The Stage is a West Bloomfield institution, that should be more focused on maintaining (let's even say improving) its reputation for food and service, than simply redecorating. After 18+ years of patronage, I can't say for certain if we'll return.

Still the best Deli in West Bloomfield. Not quite sure when they remodeled the joint with white contemporary pleather chairs and dropped the old movie and theater posters. Seems a bit over done now for what it should be. Deli is not meant to be upscale. The experience should be a step or two above "Diner", but stay a step or two below fine dining. Nevertheless, the food makes up for the missed decorating efforts.

I averaged about 1-2 visits a month at the Stage before the renovation, now I average about 1 every few months. The service is usually on the slow side, but I love their rubens and I never go there when I have time constraints. They have AWESOME sandwiches and some of the best bread in town, but the new decor has taken away the Stage's homey appeal. I am no longer comfortable at the stage. They have replaced the red plush comfy booths and movie star decor with stiff black leather (the booths enforce a 90 degree posture at all times) and a basic black and white color scheme. I miss the old Stage Deli, but I will stop in on occasion for their soup and deep-fried livers despite the renovation.

Everything is good here. Everything. Sandwiches, soup, breakfast, I've gotten them all in the last 8 or so years I've been going to Stage Deli, and I haven't been disappointed once. The portions are pretty large, but it's good to take home and save for later! Good service, and usually pretty easy to get in. I would definitely recommend it!

THE deli. this is the deli that i always crave for when i have to settle for the bagel or askenaz in chicago. chicago does not have good delis, WHY?!!? i have no clue?! growing up, this was the place to go for amazing matzah ball soup, chopped salads, rye bread, hot corned beef and omelettes. i have dreams about their house dressing and house vinegarette and long for their matzah ball soup. chicago delis should take a lil trip to WB, hit up the stage and then go back and try to measure up to this detroit institution.

This is one of the best deli's in Michigan. The Reuban, especially, is terrific, and it's huge! You could share it with someone and still be stuffed. They also have booths, which we prefer. The Deli gets very busy, so call ahead for reservations.

This is a wonderful place, from the decor to the menu, everything is tailored to perfection. I had the corned beef sandwich with a bowl of white chicken chili. It was sublime. The pickles tasted like they were freshly made in house, along with the cole slaw and the rye bread. It's a little pricy, but you definitely get what you pay for here!

Great pastrami, great corned beef, great sandwiches in large portions. Detroit Metro is one of the homes for great delis in the US and this is just another example of a place that knocks it out of the park. Stage has a "stage" theme for the names of the sandwiches.

The Stage holds a special place in my heart because my former boss and I used to dine here frequently...so, I'm a bit biased on account of my sentimental little heart. Anyway, the Stage is great. First, what an interesting ambience! If you happen to come here during lunch time, the place is FILLED with old-jewish-grandmother types, as well as plain ol' business men and ho-hum families, etc. Also, there are no windows, lots of booths, and lots of movie/show posters (get it? the STAGE?). The no-window aspect makes it somewhat cozy in the winter-time or on a rainy day, especially since there are some great soups to be had here! Second: don't expect great service and friendly waitstaff, if that's what you're looking for. The owner in particular, is a bit stand-offish. Aside: for all I know, he could be a warm and fuzzy teddy bear, but "stand-offish" is the vibe I get. The waitstaff can be incompetent and not particularly nice, but I don't get my feathers ruffled too easily when it comes to service...it's just not that big of a deal to me. Third: the food. My favorite thing about the Stage? NEW PICKLES! I heart new pickles, and the only other place that has decent new pickles (in my experience) is Zingerman's. They also have old pickles, but who cares about those. When you dine there, they bring you a plate of both kinds of pickles (new and old), but I always ask for just new. Also, the menu is huge and overwhelming with tons of sandwiches, salads and just about anything and everything else you can imagine. I like the Cabbage Soup and Isreali Salad. Back in my non-vegan days, I liked the Matzo Ball Soup, particularly because it's just a matzo ball and broth, none of that other shit like noodles, carrots and celery that other delis serve with it. Also--the breakfast is really good (served all day? well, at least at lunch) and I've heard great things about the egg white pizza (though I've never had it myself). Also: they have a variety of deserts including my favorite (though I don't eat it anymore) Seven Layer Cake!

I could eat here 7 days a week because of the menu variety. EVERYTHING is fresh and delish! Always homemade food. The waitstaff is friendly and the management takes care of customers. I eat here 2x week if not more. Best Corned Beef in Michigan.

I was in New York recently, and my friend bit into a Pastrami sandwich at the famous Carnegie Deli on 7th Ave. The sandwich costs $22, by the way. She says to me: "It's not as good as The Stage in West Bloomfield." And you're not going spend $22 on a Pastrami sandwich at The Stage. There is a very wide variety of sandwiches, including Deli staples, all cleverly named. My favorite is the Annie Hall: Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Swiss Cheese on Pumpernickel. You can't miss with most items. And you can even get Kishkas.

When I think Deli, I think The Stage. With an extremely extensive and creative menu, The Stage Deli has become a staple for metro Detroiters who enjoy a good Reuben or tossed salad. When I ate meat I used to order the Mark Betlaire salad, an absolutely delicious combination of lettuce, swiss, corned beef, turkey, egg, and creamy garlic dressing. Now, however, I usually get the Annie Hall which combines ingredients like avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, and swiss to create a delectable sandwich. Most of the menu items are available in carry-out form and are definitely big enough to split. Sandwiches and salads not enough? Try some of their pipping hot soups. My personal favorite is the Diet Cabbage Borscht. Its combination of sweet and spice and all that is nice makes it classic deli fare. Although The Stage isn't the cheapest deli, it's not as expensive as places in NYC and you're truly paying for the fresh ingredients. Make sure to order a Dr. Brown's soda to compliment your sandwich/salad/soup to really complete the experience. Don't forget the old dill pickles, either!

Personally I like my Corned Beef sandwiches from Lou's or Noah's, but this place does a tweak bit better for pastrami in my opinion. Honestly I only come here for the Jewish food. Matzo ball soup... and I'm a sucker for lox and bagels schmear. Potato pancakes and Knish. That's why they will always stand out from other delis. **new addition Huge Cheesecake Brownies!** that's a diet breaker. Sigh.

yum, definitelly one of my favorites if not the favorite in terms of delis. I love the Mark Beltaire salad, tossed and chopped with the house dressing, it is absolutely amazing. I used to stop in west bloomfield on the way back to school in ann arbor just to pick up one of these salads. I have not found an equivalent salad at a deli in chicago in terms of yummy taste. Also the sandwiches are excellent, and I love the chicken rice soup. Definitely check this place out.

My wife and I frequent Stage 1-2 times a month and have always enjoyed our meals whether there for Breakfast, lunch or dinner. We are looking forward to the new outdoor seating area. I recently used Stage for catering a business lunch meeting for 18. The food was delivered on time and hot, we chose the Italian package as I will call it and the amount and quality of the food you receive is truly a value for the price. Despite most attendees going back for seconds we still had leftovers and the desserts included were delicious. Thanks Stage!

THE BEST OF THE BEST DELI'S IN THE AREA. THE CORNED BEEF IS DELICIOUS AND THE RYE BREAD HAS A CRUNCH CRUST. THE COLE SLAW IS FABULOUS. I ALSO ENJOY THE EGG WHITE PIZZA FOR A LIGHTER TOUCH. THERE IS A FULL SERVICE BAR.
